Xgen accessing guide data.
Hi,

Is there a way to access the Xgen guide data with soup? (IGS or legacy Xgen)

shell node speed
i was thinking about something, a progress bar on some nodes could be a good help for such setup if possible.
Not knowing when computation will end usually tends to make me kill maya.
But if i know that i have to wait let's say 1min it's better than nothing.

shell node speed

here is a simple setup with a volume noise to control the percentage of variance.

In this scene i have only 100 shells to make things fast, if you duplicate and combine lets say 10 times, so 1000 shells it will start to shock a little.
Of course for a tree scenario, i will have to deal with a much higher number of shells.

thanks

shell node speed
hi,

I found the shell node quiet slow to operate, is it possible in the future to have it multi-threaded or something?
Does this node relie on UVs to identify the shell?

My practical case would be for a random color leaves variance (vertex color) and in that case the shell node is bottlenecking the process.

I'm trying to find some effective ways for doing this, i'm aware of some of the other techniques like randomizing the uvs with script etc but still slow to compute.
So if you have some better effective solution (speed wise) it would be great.

Hi,

Is it possible to have a Min Edge Angle in the group node like what we have in houdini group node?

Thanks

A free light version of SoUP can be possible
JeremyR wrote: Practicing on a limited amount of points/primitives is okay for learning purposes, if someone wants to try out very large data sets you can always download the 15 day trial.

say i download the demo now then after 6 month there is new nodes that i want to try; the demo wont work again as i already downloaded it the first time.

yes i agree having a partial version of soup it's not a good idea, we need to be able to try new nodes and practice on them etc.
I think locking batch rendering could be a good idea if it's possible.
Concerning the limited amount of points, not really sure about it in a sense that it will be hard to evaluate performance for a large amount of points.

A free light version of SoUP can be possible

hi,
i wanted to create a similar topic few days back.

Is it possible to have a free version but maybe locked with no batchrendering or something?
I don't have any problem about paying for the plugin (really worth it), the problem is that i don't use it on every project; but the thing is that with soup you always have practice and try things. (adding to this the lack of documentation).

thanks

polyColorPerVertex maya node to smooth vertex color
Hi,

I'm wondering if it's possible to hijack this maya node and feed the input components to be able to use it procedurally.
Basically, i want to use this node to smooth the vertex color created by a bounding object and the attribute transfer.

solver node UI bug

hi,

Every time i call the solver node, it messes up with the UI in the attribute editor on the top.
(maya2017 windows8.1)

Thanks
