Polygon reduction OR decimation
Hi.

Can soup be used for polygon reduction or decimation? For instance, say if you wanted to make a mesh be back in a parametric state. Reduce its polygons as if it weren't made editable (but it is still).

Thoughts?

But can it (soup) be made to drop each instance as its being drawn/painted so that each instance is treated like its already part of the target mesh? Like a spheres building on top of each other as long as I'm holding the mouse down. Or for the purpose of painting a stroke that if said stroke looped over itself, those instances could then act as part of the original target mesh that one is painting a stroke on in the first place.

I know that the basic built in geometry paint does the regular thing, I'm trying to build on this functionality hopefully with soup.

Exactly. Can Soup be made to incorporate this?

Hi. Is there a way to draw xgen-like instanced strokes as if there are 2 staggered strokes with soup. Like one curve is drawn then the second is placed after? Almost like a dotted line when painting?

thx

Curve on mesh plus paint geometry geo instances
Just the regular paint geo tool here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v1V4zZCs-S4

However, I just went back over the new xGen stuff and it mentions it can handle instancing curves.

My goal was to initially paint strokes with the regular paint effects airbrush across other meshes that are "live" or "paintable". But I also wanted the stroke to be able to collide with itself whenever the stroke went back across itself. This is why I was trying out the smokeline animation (knowing that it would be slower since it is animating not just straight modeling). I was trying to have the added feature of colliding with itself and with other meshes via animation tools but my goal is just to have a modeling result.

Modeling via animation nucleus stuff but its more of a hassle than its worth it seems.
Paint effects doesn't seem to provide the auto self collisions I need. (Maybe in 2014 though).

Curve on mesh plus paint geometry geo instances
Hi all.

I was looking at this "curve on mesh script" (http://www.creativecrash.com/maya/script/curve-on-mesh) and had an idea. I'd like to be able to basically couple this script with the built in"paint geometry" tool. The idea is to also have it be able to make each instance "made paintable" instantly upon each instance being created. So that it gives a self collision like function to the drawn curve.

Does anyone have any ideas about this with Soup?
Or just a script that ongoingly checks painted instances to then add them to a "make paintable" array?

Thx

Painting particle self collisions
What difference would it make to use particles versus nparticles for soup to mimic the smoke line example? Also, is it possible to convert particles to nparticles?
It would be a good trick to mimic drawing words on a cake with one of those icing tube funnels that sticks to the cake.

Shape constrained shrinkwrap
Hi.

I'm trying to get one mesh (a plane or extruded plane) to shrink to fit another mesh shape (like a hilly mountain range) but also be able to be moved/dragged along to adhere to any part of the hills. Being constrained to the underlying shape.

http://www.creativecrash.com/maya/plugin/shape-constraint

Can soup achieve this?

Thx

How could I constrain the flow of particles around the shape of another mesh?

Painting particle self collisions
Once one ball comes close enough to establish a connected state, I want the line of particles from the particle "smoke line" to follow or continue on a path between metaballs that connect.

In a relationship to the above mentioned idea, I'm also adding metaballs to the mix.

First, does SOup have a metaball capability like this:
 ?

http://www.newstyle-tm.com/meta.zip

I'm basically wanting to have the particle lines (smoke lines) drawn inside of a metaball blob and colliding within the blob with the walls of the metaball as well as with other particle lines (the metaball blobs will be dynamically growing or shrinking colored metaballs).

Do you think that the growing and shrinking metaballs can be used to control the lifespanPP of the particle lines?

I want to be able to "flow" a particle line between metaballs where they intersect (boolean intersect, "grow"), but cut off when they don't (or shrink).

Painting particle self collisions
Let's say I wanted to make smoke signals from cigarettes or whatever. I was thinking of having draw my main line curve first to get the general direction (constraint or attraction), then to sculpt / draw each signal as a curve first, that will be sent along that first curve.

Then using the "smoke line" link above or SOup to draw out the actual signals.

(Or something like this).

How would you handle "erasing" any part of a particles emitted or painted?

Shape constraint in soup?
Hello.

Anybody have a another way of doing this with soup?
