Just confirming that the update is working for me.
Thanks again Peter.
The remesher did not disappoint.

Thanks Peter. You always seem to be able to fix things faster than I can test them :)
I will try this out first thing Monday. I really appreciate you going to so much trouble.

I can see our rez package path to libgcc.. Is that what you meant, or is there a way to query the actual code version?

Thanks Peter. I appreciate how hard it must be to maintain compatibility across so many variables.

17-03-21 gcc 4.8.2 undefined symbol error when loading plugin
Hi Peter, I thought I'd move this from the general discussion to here.

When I try to load the plugin into 2016 sp6 on centos 6.5 (gcc 4.8.2) I'm getting this error:

SOuP.so: undefined symbol: _ZTTNSt7__cxx1119basic_istringstreamIcSt11char_traitsIcESaIcEEE (SOuP)

I got the pipeline guys to try this with devtoolset-2 and they got the same error.
Can you think of anything else that we may be missing in our config?

thanks
David

ok. gcc 4.4.7, so quite old.
I do not have admin rights, but I'll ask those guys if they can help out.

thanks again
David

update: I figured out how to load maya with gcc 4.8.2 (yay for rez)  but I still get the same error. Would I still need to get that devtoolset installed?

Hi Peter.
Here is the error message I'm getting when I try to load the plugin (gcc482 build) in maya 2016 sp6 on centos 6.5:

Hey Peter, regarding the "undefined symbol" error...
I'll copy and paste the whole things tomorrow at work.
To my eyes it was mostly long slightly scrambled names with lots of __

cheers

Very nice Peter. Both the connection thing and the remesher look really cool.

I say "look" because I cant get the plugin to load. Getting an "undefined symbol" error. I'm on centos 6.5 in maya 2016 sp6. In previous soup versions I have been using the gcc451 build. But it looks like you have upgraded to gcc482.

Is that the problem, and am I just sitting on a config that is too old?

thanks
David

Wow. Things move so fast around here! Thanks Peter. I did not get a chance to try it yet. Maybe I just jump to the 2017-02-14 build... or is the problem with my config here at work where we have no internet on production machines?

David

update: 2017-02-14 build is working well. Thanks again Peter!

Hi Peter. Wow you've been busy this year! Excellent updates all round.

I have a small issue with the 2017-02-11 build. When I start maya it freezes for approx 30 secs when the plugin is loaded. I'm getting the following message:

# Error: socket error
# Traceback (most recent call last):
#   File "<maya console>", line 1, in <module>
#   File "/library/rez/ext_packages/app_maya/2016.1.5.2/platform-linux/ext/lib/python27.zip/urllib.py", line 87, in urlopen

#     raise err
# IOError: [Errno socket error] [Errno 110] Connection timed out #

I'm not sure if that message is very helpful, but I'll add that this is centos 6.5 and maya 2016 sp6. I dont get this problem with the 2017-02-05 build. As far as I can tell things are working after it times out, so its just a bit annoying.

Thanks
David

Hi Peter, this collision stuff looks really nice. Unfortunately I've been unable to get the latest soup to load on my machine. centos 6.5, maya 2016 sp5.

If I use the gcc531 build, soup plugin doesnt load and I get this error:

# Error: line 1: Unable to dynamically load : /net_home/david.johnson/local_packages/soup/17.01.22/platform-linux/app_maya-2016.1/bin/SOuP.so
/lib64/libc.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.14' not found (required by /net_home/david.johnson/local_packages/soup/17.01.22/platform-linux/app_maya-2016.1/bin/SOuP.so) #

And if I try the gcc451 version, soup does load, but I still get errors when it loads:

# Error: invalid syntax
#   File "<maya console>", line 13466
#     mc.textFieldGrp(arg[0], e=True, tx=l[0]+".worldMesh")import re, itertools, __main__
#                                                               ^
# SyntaxError: invalid syntax #
# Error: name 'soup' is not defined

The shelf commands also fail.
But I can create some of the nodes manually, so something is working.

Is there any other info I can give you to help me debug it?

thanks
David

vdbExport Script
Since no one mentioned it... This will not work in python due to the \ used in the path.
sys.path.append('C:\Users\xxxxxxx\Documents\maya\xxxx\scripts')
Use / instead and you should be ok.
