The skinChop command appears to be broken in the latest release for 2016.5.

We used to call it with an argument like this:

if not cmds.pluginInfo("SOuP.so", query=True, loaded=True):
    cmds.loadPlugin("SOuP.so")

__main__.skinChop_SOuP().skinChop("pPlane1")

This now raises an error:
# Exception: Keyword argument "base" should be of type string or unicode. # 

The argument is a string, so I am uncertain as to why this being raised. 

I tried it based on selection and it did not raise the error but it resulted in only Transforms being created (no shapes).

It was a little bug in there.
Fixed it.
Will be in the next release.
In the meantime select the object(s) that you want to skin-chop and then run the command without arguments.

That's great! Thank you for the timely update. 

I have tried the skinChop command using the selection and it only created transforms but did not create meshes. Could this be another bug?

The transforms match the pattern and naming of older releases, they just don't contain any mesh nodes.

Just wondering what the build and release schedule for SOuP is so I put it on my calendar and update the artist who requested it.
