Google is collaborating with Autodesk to launch Autodesk Maya, a new cloud-optimized animation, modeling, and rendering service. 3D scenes are transferred to Google Compute Engine in the background via a Maya plugin while the user is working with the software.

Sounds interesting, I guess this is great for scene sharing and collaboration on a global level. Not sure if its that practical from a studio POV.
Would this be more like a render farm then?

Looks like Google Zinc is just a render farm with no mention of Maya, yet. I get the impression this new collaboration might include farming off simulations and storage and whatever else. Don't know.
Google has some nice APIs.

Yes, this is Google Zync. The only DCC they current support is Maya and Nuke. Maya has Vray and Arnold renderer support. They have a submission tool from within Maya - https://www.zyncrender.com/#tutorials

It doesn't mention anything w.r.t. simulation yet but I guess eventually they'll open it up for non render jobs as well (which is already possible using the Google Compute Engine platform).

Can SOuP be supported with Zync? I emailed the google devs and they said if the author can submit the maya plugin, they'll support it.

SOuP's a pretty big deal in the maya world, so it would be welcome to have it with Google's Zync platform.

I don't mind that. It will save me time if you point me to the right place for this to happen.
Thanks.

Hi Peter, did they ever get back to you on this?

I really like Zync but I don't really do scenes anymore without SOuP! :)
