Actually this is a bug in Maya i think.
Connecting top-level weightList attributes used to work since Maya v1, but not anymore.
The workaround is to manually arrayToMulti.outWeigthList[0] to someDeformer.weightList[0].
The smartConnect node connects the top ones assuming that Maya will respect that. 🙂
I will change the behavior of the smartConnect code to accommodate for this new reality.

hi,

i also noticed that connecting manually make the connection to hook up, but still if you try to change something in the "smooth" node or in the "tensionMap" node it will still crash.
here is the file again

There is a little mistake in your network - set the splitRgba1's input array type to RGBA.
I thought that i am handling this exception in the smooth deformer, but apparently missed something in there. Code will be updated for the next release (hopefully this weekend).

Ha yes 🙂 it was driving me crazy; seems to work smoothly now with the RGBA instead of RGB.

thanks

I just updated the smooth and smoothSimple deformers to handle properly this case.
